Artist: Tarisse King

Title: Handing Down

Medium: Metal, Enamel

Size: 33x41x8cm

Year: 2021

With this sculpture Tarisse wanted to translate her ‘Handing Down’ story into a 3D object. The choice to use metal is a reflection on the strength and longevity of the Australian Indigenous culture and the stories passed down over the centuries.

Handing Down

Many of the stories told by Tarisse King through her artwork were handed down directly by her father, the late William King Jungala. After William passed away Tarisse would feel connected to her father through her artwork but she always felt a longing to connect more with her Australian Indigenous culture.

Tarisse regularly travels back to her ancestors lands, the Gurindji country. And now she brings her 3 daughters. Tarisse has enjoyed sharing the stories and history of their Gurindji Ancestors. This new series of artworks are a representation of these trips and the handing down of the stories to her children.
